Awesome Cycling Trails To Explore In Malaysia
TARIKANWhile some of us already set their goals for the new year, some might still struggle in finding and completing their goals to cater for the new year resolutions. As we are ushering Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign; one of the highlights is to promote eco-tourism in Malaysia.
Here an idea to do it in style; cycling! Yes, take up cycling and not only it is eco-friendly, it allows you to try a new things while discover new places. Well, you can also burn down the nasi lemak, roti canai and others too!
Apart of the beaches and tropical rainforest (the oldest in the world), we have some pretty awesome cycling trails for hobbyist and cycling enthusiast. Check out some of the cycling spot in Malaysia that you can try.
Putrajaya
The well-planned and spacious area in Putrajaya needs no introduction when it comes to the biking scene. Located 30 km from Kuala Lumpur; Putrajaya is the federal administrative capital of Malaysia and it is well known for being ‘the’ area for cycling.
There are dedicated bike trails throughout Putrajaya and of course; you will have the picturesque views of Putrajaya Lake, Putra Mosque as well as the Putra Bridge.
Shah Alam
Slightly outside Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Selangor is another ideal destination for cyclist. With 1,295 hectare of tropical rainforest and agriculture park; Botanical Park Shah Alam is the largest in Malaysia and cyclist can ride freely without fear of incoming car.
Besides the park, there are some area in Section 4,5 and 14 where dedicated bike lane are installed.
Although you will ride through the city, some part of the lane will have some greenery as well as iconic landmark of Shah Alam such as the famous Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz mosque and more.
Central Park, Desa Park City
Besides of being a pet-friendly park, the Central Park in Desa Park City is another great sport to cycle as the park provides a wide pathway for cyclist to ride around the park.
The laidback atmosphere and flat ground is perfect to do casual or leisure cycling session. Located around 20km from Kuala Lumpur city centre, the park is a hit among the locals in the area especially when weekends come.
Forest Research Institute Of Malaysia (FRIM) Kepong
Located in Kepong, if you are bored pedalling on the road or just flat pavement, FRIM is the best alternative. FRIM allows you to escape the city and enter a ‘new world’ that surrounded by hilly areas as well as lush greenery.
If you don’t have a bike, no worries! Bicycle rentals are provided (including mountain bikes). Besides cycling, you can also have the option to go on hiking, bird watching, camping and also enjoy the waterfall.
Genting Sempah, Pahang
Although the route spans a distance of 30km, this route is not for beginners. Spare it for later. This ‘epic’ route will take you from the start off point that located near the Gombak Orang Asli Hospital all the way to the flyover that lead to Genting Sempah, town that is located in between Selangor and Pahang.
Roughly, the route sits on a mountain pass and it is far from the dedicated bike trail or lane in the park. You’ll be sharing the route with the daily road commuter.
Denum Valley, Sabah
With a vast biodiversity and one of the prominent centres for rainforest research establishments in Soth East Asia, Danum Valley offer endless activities like diving into the natural pool, cycle your way to the valley or even hiking and trekking through the rainforest and discover the Bornean jungle while navigating your bike.

Tuba Bike Ride which showcases the island known as Pulau Tuba, with its hilly terrain covering 20 sq km of fertile lands and unsullied beaches.
Alor Setar Royal Heritage Trail, famous of its historical and heritage sites stretching 16km that begins from Menara Alor Setar and many more.
