Cleaning Your Home Post Flood: A Step-by-Step Guide

1. Move Your Belongings Out of The House, When The Water Level Is At Your Calf

First thing that needs to be done is moving all your belongings out from the house. This is to prevent any possible moulds or fungi growth which thrives in moist condition. They may develop on almost anything and pose a long-term threat to our health. It's time to figure out which items can be saved and which can be discarded.

You might want to bring a saw with you to trim down any bloated furniture that won't fit through the door.

2. Remove Mud As Water Levels Approach Your Ankle.

To get rid of the mud from your home, you'll need a lot of water. It's much more difficult and time consuming to remove the mud and stains from walls and floors if it is completely dried. Don't forget to clear away the drains outside your home before you get started with your cleaning.

3. Do Not Turn On Any Electrical Appliances.

If you switch on your fridge or TV before they are completely dry, you may be doing more harm than good. Obviously, the first step is to allow your electrical aplliances to dry for 5 days or a week.

4. Begin By Cleaning Your Bedroom.

The majority of people who've had this problem before recommend that you start by cleaning your bedroom. Because the cleaning process will take days, you need a clean and comfortable place to rest and sleep.

5. Clean Items That Are Made of Fabric First.

Carpets and clothes, both of which contain fabric, can be cleaned easily before they are dried of mud. Using a waterjet to clean these fabrics is also an option. Spray them with water outside to remove the mud. While kitchen untensils are the the least important because they are easier to clean compared to other items.
